Humping Turtles & an Underwater Playground | Lady Musgrave You Absolute Treat

Food – check. Water – check. Fuel – check. Top notch weather forecast – check

It was time to put our big kid pants on for an overnight voyage to the Bunker Group.

I can pretty much sleep on command but night watches have never been a favourite of the captain. Lack of sleep and sea sickness are a cocktail for disaster. We had been lead to believe that it would be worth the trip though, so off we set for the turquoise blue waters of Lady Musgrave lagoon.

After a great sailing afternoon and a really uneventful night we arrived outside the lagoon early morning where we sat treading water waiting for the tide to enter.

Also. Maybe it was our delirium from no sleep, but to all those people telling us there was plenty of room in the entrance, I really don’t know if we were at the same place!

First reef pass after an overnight passage and I felt like a drunk driver.
Holy dooly we made it!

And now the challenge has started, how many activities can we fit into the next few days??

Each morning we would load up our adventure dinghy with fishing gear, diving gear and the SUPs and took off to explore the lagoon.

We had never seen water this colour or this clear!!

One of us in particular was pretty excited….

Let the underwater exploring commence! The lagoon itself is MASSIVE but you really couldn’t go wrong in picking a spot.

We made friends with tons of super chill turtles, searched for manta rays (with no success) and enjoyed the cool, clear waters of the lagoon.

Lady Musgrave Island itself is like a jungle and home to TONS of friendly sea birds. Literally thousands of them. Walking around the island it is a “look up at your own risk” kind of scenario. Seriously, I can’t believe we didn’t get pooped on.

I also can’t believe how lucky we got with the weather! I mean, obviously we planned for it but you really can’t beat clear skies and sunshine when you are in a reef lagoon.

Once we had our dose of land time it was back to the water!

How can you stay away when it looks that good?!

Oh and how can I forget the turtle humping happening all around us!

I guess they were having a good time so you kinda felt bad for interrupting.

The few days of blissfully clear water, sunshine and sea life were greatly appreciated by our little crew. Cruising around over the top of crystal clear water, looking onto the reef felt like you could be on a different planet.

UGHHH, SO NICE!!

And tell you what, we are certainly getting our money’s worth from Mani the PortaBote. He hasn’t let us down yet!

The saddest part of our stay was that only one edible fish was caught the whole time! Not for lack of trying though…

To say we were exhausted by the end of our stay is a bit of an understatement.. BUT It was totally worth the trip!!! Nathan even managed to get a few waves off the edge of the lagoon.

Most people know we are coming to the end of our adventure, and what an end it has been! A whole multitude of reasons has meant we have plans to list Nimbi for sale when we reach the Sunshine Coast..

I think the worst part will be having to wear shoes again!

It is going to be hard to part with our little home after 2 years but we still have a little way to go yet!…

So see ya later Musgrave! Stay fabulous!

Until next time.

Xx
